Description

Ever watched a play or film and thought, 'I would have done that differently'?

This workshop is your chance to jump into the director’s chair and make it happen, in a relaxed, creative, slightly chaotic (in the best way) environment.

Across three hours in an operating theatre space, you’ll get hands-on experience in how theatre directors shape a scene from nothing into something. You’ll be given a short script to work with, then collaborate with other participants to figure out:

  • What’s really going on beneath the words

  • How you want the scene to look, feel and move

  • How to communicate your vision clearly to actors

  • How to give notes that are helpful, kind and actually make sense to the actors.

You’ll each get a turn directing fellow participants, experimenting with blocking, intention, emotional beats and all the good stuff that makes a scene sing. It’s practical, creative and a brilliant way to understand how theatre magic happens.

No experience required, just curiosity, imagination and a willingness to boss people around nicely.

This workshop is perfect for those who love creativity, leadership, puzzles, collaboration and who want to see their ideas jump off the page.

This workshop is open to the Veteran Community.

What to bring

Water bottle. Notebook and pen or PED if you want to take notes.

If you have a short script or scene you like and want to work with (or even one you have written yourself!), you are encouraged to bring it along (I would like a copy before the workshop so I can also prepare).
