Description

Curious about how an actor turns the written word into dynamic performance you can't tear your eyes away from?

This hands-on acting workshop dives deep into the world of monologues: how to break them open, make them your own and bring them to life in a way that feels grounded, truthful and authentic.

Across three hours in an operating theatre space, you’ll learn how to:

  • Analyse a monologue for beats, objectives and emotional shifts

  • Connect personally to the text and find what your character really wants

  • Play with voice, movement and intention to build a dynamic performance

  • Shake off nerves and step confidently into the spotlight.

You’ll put everything into practice by rehearsing a short monologue, performing it for the group and receiving real-time direction on how to take your performance to the next level (totally optional, but very encouraged!). Participants also have the opportunity to present their piece at FOVA’s Open Mic Night for a supportive, art-loving audience.

No acting experience needed, just a sense of fun and a willingness to give it a go (and not expect to get it "right").

This workshop is perfect for those who love storytelling, big feelings, bold choices and who are keen to unleash their inner performer.

This workshop is open to the Veteran Community.

What to bring

Clothes you can move comfortably in. Water bottle. Notebook and pen or PED if you want to take notes.

If you have a monologue you like and want to work with (or even one you have written yourself!), feel free to bring it along (I would like a copy before the workshop so I can also prepare).
